The Tiber Island is the only island in the Tiber river on its way through Rome. This a boat-shaped island. it has always been associated with medicine. It was home to an ancient temple to Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine and healing and is still the seat of a hospital. As island has been linked to the rest of Rome by two bridges since antiquity, it used to be simply called the island between the two bridges, The Ponte Fabricio, and the Ponte Cestio.
